Q&A with Kiefer’s Pazleigh Shanks
VYPE: Pazleigh, when did you get your start in cheer and what position are you on the Kiefer varsity cheer team?
Pazleigh Shanks: I have been cheering ever since I was in first grade. My position on the team is a back spot and I’m a cheer captain as well.
VYPE: What do you love most about this team and your teammates?
PS: Our bond with each other. We all work so well together and have amazing friendships!
VYPE: What other activities are you involved in at KHS?
PS: I’ve been a little league cheer coach for two years, member of the FCA for three years, member of the NHS for three years and sit as NHS treasurer, sophomore vice president, junior class president, and running for class treasurer this year. I’m also in my second year of the cosmetology program at Central Tech.
VYPE: Who inspires you?
PS: I would say my parents inspire me. I wouldn’t be who I am today without them. Their kindness, selflessness, work ethic, and love is truly one of a kind.
VYPE: What is your favorite subject in school and who is your favorite teacher?
PS: My favorite subject in school is math and my favorite teacher would have to be my sophomore English teacher Mrs. Sexson. She was always kind and happy to help when anyone was struggling. I learned a lot from her class!
VYPE: Most people don’t see the hours of practice a cheer team puts in. What’s your schedule been like this year?
PS: We’ve been practicing all summer on our sideline cheers and our competition cheer. We’ve spent countless hours in the cheer room practicing our stunts, sideline dances, cheers, tumbling, etc. We are all very dedicated and hungry this season with our new skills we’ve been working on.
VYPE: What do you enjoy most about Friday nights?
PS: I’ve really enjoyed how the Kiefer community comes together. Representing the school is such a blessing when you’re supported by everyone.
VYPE: What would you like to do after you graduate?
PS: I would like to attend Oklahoma State University.
VYPE: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
PS: I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. When I am not doing that, I enjoy doing my nails, shopping, and going to the lake.
