Sand Springs Girls Basketball
The basketball program at Charles Page High School is built on hard work, and a desire to play solid basketball with a blue-collar mentality. The Lady Sandites are entering the new season with a renewed passion and a coach in Paige Wadley who continues to build this program into a contender. This season the team is poised to take another step in their development and compete at a high level.
“We’re young overall, with a solid freshman group stepping up in a big way. Combined with upperclassmen who’ve earned valuable court time the last couple of seasons, this team is building a strong foundation. We look for strong guard play from some of our freshman, as well as our senior Calla Fueshko and hope to utilize our two junior post players Nevaeh Garrison and Lily Crain more. We pride ourselves on working hard, playing tough defense, and competing every possession,” said coach Wadley.
Calla Fueshko (5-5, Sr.) will run the point with Nevaeh Garrison (6-0, Jr.) and Lily Crain (6-1, Jr.) at forward. This trio will provide the Sandites with solid play in the paint and a point guard who can run the offense and compete on defense. Fueshko averaged 21 points a game with 4.0 steals on the defensive end of the court. Fueshko was also named to the VYPE Top 100 list this season.
Another senior, Nevaeh Miles (5-4. Sr.) will play guard giving the team another player who can play tough defense and provide some shooting from the perimeter. A group of freshmen will provide a lift this season with their play. Ella Wadley (5-6, Fr.), Brooklynn Bozone (5-4, Fr.), Tindle Smith (5-6, Fr.) and Avery Mercy (5-5, Fr.) are all guards who figure into the rotation this season. As they gain more experience, this group will develop into a solid unit and appear to be the future of the program. Wadley is an aggressive player who can hit the deep shots, while Smith is a defensive spark and can finish around the rim. Bozone is known to be a fierce competitor who thrives in transition, while Mercy can see the entire floor and score from behind the arc. Other players to watch include Kaydin Bowden (5-4, Jr.) at guard, Emily Logan (5-9, So.) at guard, Raegin Sanders (5-9, So.) at small forward, and Sophia Calkins (5-5, So.) at guard. The large class of freshmen also includes Amira Stepp (5-6, Fr.) at guard, Jillian Brown (5-9, Fr.) at forward, Paisley Sanders (5-7, Fr.) at guard, Kenzie Felsinger (5-9, Fr.) at guard, Josie Vanderyt (5-8, Fr.) at forward, and Mackenna Sanders (5-9, Fr.) at forward.
