Softball at Charles Page High School in Sand Springs under the leadership of head coach Shelli Brown, has developed into one of the top programs in the area with players consistently showing up in the VYPE Top 100 and making their way to play college softball after high school.
One player who is making a name for herself is sophomore Lakelyn Harger. A plays third base and pitches when coach Brown calls her number. Harger started playing softball when she was very young.
“I started playing softball when I was in kindergarten. I realized it was the sport for me when I was in fifth grade which is when I started kid pitch,” said Harger.
Coming into the season, Harger wanted to improve in all areas of her game, including her ability to control the strike zone.
“I started pitching at age 10 and I realized that was the position I wanted to focus on. I continue to practice every day to perfect my skills,” said Harger.

“My competitive coach Nick Zodrow has believed in me since day one. He has always helped me with my pitching, and he has made me a better player,” said Harger.
As a team, the Lady Sandites are off to a solid start and Harger said the team has a strong bond and will continue to improve.
“We all have a great bond as a team. We really know how to work together when things get stressful,” Harger said. “Sand Springs has provided great opportunity for growth and development not only in my primary position. Coach Shelli Brown provides great feedback to help all her players grow and succeed.”
Her competitiveness comes from being part of a competitive family.
“My competitiveness comes from my sister. From a young age I would watch her play and learn from her competitiveness.
Once her playing days at CPHS come to an end, Harger said she would like to take her talents to the next level.
“I would like to go to college and play softball. While attending college I would like to study physical therapy.”
