Sand Springs’ Lyndon Mercer

Lyndon Mercer of Sand Springs is a rising star on the soccer team. Now in his sophomore season, Mercer enjoyed a memorable freshman season as the only freshman to earn a starting spot on the varsity team. According to head coach Russell Ragland, Mercer was, “a key contributor” last season.

Mercer started playing soccer at the age of four. Simply playing the game is what he loves most, but being around his friends and teammates ranks high as well. Several teammates have left an impression on Mercer.

“Nate McLaren left an impression on me because he has helped me with a lot of stuff on the field,” said Mercer.

The work continues in the offseason to prepare for the spring semester. Mercer said his skill set continues to grow and improve.

“My strength of my skill set is my passing and I have improved on my shooting,” Mercer said. “I’m most proud of scoring a goal on varsity my freshman year.”

Mercer said he loves being around his teammates. The personalities fit well and everyone wants to win.

“The teammate that keeps everyone laughing is Eli Bise and the teammate that is most serious is Landen Fitz,” said Mercer.

Despite only being a sophomore, Mercer said he wants to play at the collegiate level. He believes Charles Page High School is the right place for him and will help him reach his goals.

“It’s a good place because the teachers and coaches want you to succeed,” said Mercer.
