Sand Springs Sandites – Boys Basketball Team Preview – Presented by Eric Davidson, State Farm Insurance

SAND SPRINGS SANDITES

BOYS

Coach: Eric Savage

23-24 Record: 17-10

OUTLOOK

The season is setting up nicely for the Sandites and head coach Eric Savage as he returns plenty of experience to the court.

“Look to build off a 17-10 record from last year. Returning all five top producers from last year,” said coach Savage.

Deke Thompson (6-4, Sr.) is a VYPE Top 100 selectee and a guy who averaged 19.4 points a game last season. Thompson added some size, strength and agility this offseason and is ready to lead the Sandites back to the state tournament. Four-year starter Kooper Kelly (5-9, Sr.) is back at guard where he averaged 8.3 points a game and Kason Evans (6-7, Sr.) is back at forward after hitting 9.3 points in his junior campaign.

A pair of forward make their way back to the court in Khalil Allen (6-5, Sr.) and Blake Johnson (6-6, Sr.). Allen accounted for 8.9 points while Johnson kicked in 5.5 points a game. This group has all the tools to do something special this season.

Look for contributions from senior guard CJ Young (5-7) who joined the team in January last year. Also, juniors Kruz Smith (6-0) at guard, Micah Betchan (5-10) at guard, and Teric Smith who will make an immediate impact. Brendan Ketcher (6-2, Sr.), Ty Adams (5-8, Sr.), Jaxon Wadley (6-0, Jr.), and Grady Harris (6-3, So.) are all expected to contribute this season.

“This team is capable of a deep playoff run,” said coach Savage.
