OFFENSE
With a good mix of returning talent and young players with a lot of promise, the Sandites are prepared for another run in Class 6AII after going 8-4 and making it to the quarterfinals of the playoffs last season. “We return players in some key sports and are looking for them to become leaders. We also have some young talent coming up. This should be the fastest team we’ve had since I’ve been here,” said Klinck. One of those speedsters is Caleb Goodman (6-0, 155, Sr.) who finished 4th at the state track meet in the 300 hurdles. Goodman will be one of the main targets for quarterback Easton Webb (6-4, 210, Jr.). Webb is a two-year starter with a great arm that translates to the next level. Webb is a hybrid athlete who could play football and baseball in college. A pair of receivers will play a role in the spread offense for the Sandites. Tristian Birmingham (6-1, 175, So.) and Dominic Forbes (6-1, 170, So.) are young, exciting talents at wide receiver giving Webb more options in the passing game. Forbes started a few games as a freshman. Running back Ali McCoy (5-10, 210, Sr.) is the hammer in the run game. McCoy brings balance to the offense as coach Klinck looks to play physical but balanced on offense. Ayden Wadley is a returning starter at tight end/H-back where his size and physicality are on display.
DEFENSE
Five starters return for the Sandites including Waylon Jeffers (6-0, 245, Jr.) on the defensive line. Jeffers will rate a double team on most plays, but that may not be enough to stop the big man. His play will help the linebackers make plays in the 4-2-5 scheme the Sandites will employ. The secondary is key for this defense. Not only must they cover, but they must support stopping the run. Joe Farmer (5-10, 170, So.) is ready to answer the call. Farmer is a young player, but someone who covers well and has an eye for the ball. Alex Dudley (6-0, 180, Jr.) starts at safety giving the Sandites that hybrid type player who can cover or stop the run. He has excellent instincts, speed, and leadership skills. Landon Barnes (5-10, 175, Sr.) adds experience and speed to the secondary and helps shore up the backend of the defense. The coaching staff consists of Jake Bray, Lee Kizzar, Mike Stephens, Jay Fleischman, Darrack Harger, Shane Ingram, Gage Kaiser, Parker Borovetz, Gary Joice, and Kevin Avey.
