Sand Springs’ Victoria Gibbs

At Charles Page High School, the varsity cheer coaches have long emphasized the importance of being responsible, respectful, and hard-working. Having cheered since she was six years old, senior Victoria Gibbs embodies those traits and more. Following in the footsteps of her mom, Gibbs shares the impact cheerleading has had on her life.

“What I enjoy most about cheer is the bond I have with the girls and the new things we learn every day.”

As a main and side base on her squad, her responsibilities include providing support for the flyer, maintaining balance throughout the stunt, and leading coordination through clear communication with her teammates.

“One of my favorite memories is the sleepover we had before our first game and pep assembly.”

For Gibbs, some of her greatest influences came from older girls who have since graduated, whose leadership and example helped shape the way she now supports her teammates.

“I motivate my team by giving pep talks and encouraging them,” she says.

Cheer has also challenged Gibbs to stay composed under pressure.

“The most challenging thing is learning stuff and having to do it all in one week and then performing it that Friday,” Gibbs explains. “I overcome that by relaxing and giving myself time to not become overwhelmed.”

Her favorite tumbling pass is her running full, a skill that shows the hard work and countless hours she has dedicated to the sport. She reaped the rewards of her dedication, earning All-American at cheer camp, an honor that recognizes an individual for their superior technical skills, extraordinary leadership, and strong personal values.

Outside of cheering, Gibbs enjoys spending time with close friends and shopping, which balances her busy schedule of practices and performances. After graduation, she hopes to continue her education and pursue a degree in real estate.

Reflecting on her years of cheerleading, Gibbs says the best piece of advice she has received mirrors the spirit of the sport.

“Never put yourself, and always uplift others,” she shares. “It will get you farther in life.”
