When Bobby Klinck took over the Charles Page football program, the Sandite faithful was not sure what they were getting in coach Klinck, but they liked his attitude and approach to creating a football team that earned the respect of their opponents and worked hard to represent the school and the community in a positive manner.
They got much more than that.
In a classic matchup that pitted the Choctaw Yellowjackets against the Sand Springs Sandites, both teams entered the contest with a list of top-level players, great coaching staffs and a fan base hungry for a win.
Choctaw entered the game as the defending Class 6A-2 state champions. A fact not lost on the Sandites. For Sand Springs, it had been 59 years since their last state title in 1966, which was a Class 3A title.
The Sandites used three turnovers and three touchdowns from Brock O’Dell who finished the game with 97 yards on 11 carries. Quarterback Easton Webb, who has been the mainstay of the Sandite offense for several seasons, guided the team to a, 32-27 win over Choctaw.
Traditions are built when players and coaches buy into the vision of the head coach and dedicate themselves to being the best versions of themselves while selflessly pursuing victory for the guy standing next to them. This win could mark the start of a successful tenure for coach Klinck at CPHS. Something tells me the fans would be fine with that.
