Sapulpa’s Jack Madden
The Sapulpa wrestling team is always a tough, salty group of wrestlers who embrace the grind and love competing on the mat. Head coach Cody Fuller has a good group of hardnosed workers who are ready to take on all challenges this season. One wrestler, Jack Madden, is a sophomore this season and will likely wrestle at 113-poinds.
“I started wrestling when I was four or five years old, then I quit. Then when I entered my seventh grade year I came back. Now I’m loving it,” said Madden.
Also a cross country runner, track athlete and a soccer player, Madden is athletic and loves to compete. Wrestling is the sport he loves, and he’s encouraged when he hears coach Fuller says Madden has the respect of his teammates.
“That means a lot. It takes a little while to get respect when you’re the young guy, especially from the seniors, but our whole team has respect for everyone,” said Madden.
“ ”When you speak to Madden about the team, he is quick to point out his teammates and what they mean to the overall success of the team.
“What I love most about my team is we’re like a family and there is not one kid on our team who doesn’t try hard,” Madden said. “Payson Robinson has just been putting in the work and it’s paying off. The newcomer of the year would be Logan Hick. It’s his first year ever wrestling and he wants it. Freshman Tucker Albert would be the other wrestler who has done what he needs to do and it’s working.”
Madden said one of his favorite memories on the mat came while competing at the junior high level.
“My favorite tournament to wrestle is Junior High State because it’s one big bracket and it’s the whole state. But in high school it’s the Jenks Tournament. It’s a tough, big tournament,” said Madden.
Wrestling in college is something Madden is pursuing, but away from the mat you can usually find Madden spending time with friends and family.
“My plans for life after high school is to try and get a scholarship and go wrestle in college,” Madden said. “I like to fish spend time with my little brother, attend church, workout, and run. I also like to hang out with friends and family.”
