Sapulpa’s Kaydence Queen

It’s never easy to break into the varsity ranks as a freshman. The task can seem monumental and difficult to achieve. For Sapulpa High School freshman Kaydence Queen, making the cross country varsity ranks was made easier by a welcoming team and upperclassmen who showed her the way.

“All of the varsity members are extremely welcoming and do their best to make me feel included. Being one of the youngest members surrounded by their experience gives me a great sense of drive,” Queen said. “I expect this season to be a lot of hard work and will require a lot of dedication. With the goal of starting my freshman year strong.”

Queen said the team inspires her to push herself for better times on the course. Also a track athlete, Queen she continues to learn and improve.

“Working with the varsity team has helped me build my endurance and helped me discover new ways to push myself,” Queen said. “I have exercise induced asthma. When I’m running, I usually focus on my breathing.”

In the classroom, Queen said her favorite subject is history and her favorite teacher was Miss McCallum in 2nd grade at Liberty Stem Academy. Her favorite course has been the Holland Hall course.

“I really liked the course at Holland Hall. They have a ton of hills, but that just makes it easier to push yourself,” said Queen.

When she’s not training or working on homework you can usually find Queen spending time with friends and family.
