Sapulpa’s Kianna Littlebear

If you play basketball at Sapulpa High School under head coach Darlean Calip, you show up every day ready to work hard and you expect to win. Current sophomore Kianna Littlebear will play guard this season, but she got her start in basketball at a very young age.

“I first started playing little leagues at five and six years old. But started taking it serious during 4thand 5th grade when I started playing more competitive ball,” said Littlebear.

Littlebear said she loves being around her teammates at Sapulpa.

“What I love about my teammates is that we are always there to pick each other up on and off the court. I do play another sport which is softball, I ran track and did cross country but had a knee injury that I couldn’t overdue. I’m hoping to go back next season,” said Littlebear.

As a student-athlete, Littlebear said the support she gets from teachers and coaches is unmatched.

“The teaching staff are always there to help and encourage me and do what it takes to help me succeed. The coach’s push me to do my best and overcome situations that are out of my control. They help guide me into being a leader on and off the court,” said Littlebear.

The sophomore said playing with a former teammate Tyla Heard, has been a highlight so far.

“My favorite memory so far is getting to play basketball with Tyla Heard and getting as far as we got before she headed to ORU,” Littlebear said. “The freshmen we have at Sapulpa has impressed me, they came in nervous but now they are way comfortable and work hard every day.”

Littlebear hopes to help take Sapulpa to another level before playing basketball in college and pursuing a degree in sports medicine.
