Sapulpa’s Mackenna Carter

Golf is a sport you can take up at any age. For Sapulpa High School’s Mackenna Carter, that age was around 11 or 12, in the sixth grade. Now in her freshman season, Carter said she loves being around her teammates and competing for SHS.

“I love how encouraging they are and how close we are with each other,” Carter said. “Sapulpa is an excellent place for student-athletes because it offers a variety of activities for students to choose from and decide which sports they truly love.”

As a freshman coming into high school athletics, Carter has embraced the moment and continues to work hard to improve her game.

“My strength is definitely with how far I can drive which is about two hundred and seventy yards, and I’ve improved on my chipping,” said Carter.

She’s also been impressed with her teammates and how hard they are working to improve.

“Probably my teammate Jaden Brown, because she just started playing only five months ago and has improved a lot since she first started,” said Carter.

If given the choice, Carter said she loves playing her home course at Rock Creek Golf Course in Sapulpa. Carter is not limiting herself to just golf. She is currently a member of the basketball team, NJHS, and the Leadership Council.

Carter said she is inspired by her parents and is looking forward to life after high school.

“My inspirations are my mom and dad! They have both shown me what it’s like to earn what you have by putting all your work and effort into what you want, and to always give 110% effort all the time, even if you don’t feel like it,” Carter said. “I plan to attend college, Oklahoma State, and pursue a medical degree, possibly becoming a maxillofacial surgeon.”
