Sapulpa’s Wrigley Adkisson
When the Lady Chieftains take the court this season, a small group of players will enter their final season of prep basketball. Senior Wrigley Adkisson is one of them.
Adkisson has been an important piece of the puzzle for head coach Darlean Calip. A versatile player, Adkisson can play both forward positions and center. Coach Calip said there is a reason Adkisson has committed to play at the next level.
“Long, lengthy forward who can score at all three levels. Started for us last year and played significant minutes as a sophomore. We will look for her experience and leadership for this season,” said coach Calip.
The senior said a former teammate left an impression on her and she hopes to do the same for the underclassmen on the team.
“A former teammate who left an impression on me was Stailee Heard. She always pushed me and encouraged me on and off the court,” said Adkisson.
Her basketball journey started at a very young age when she played recreation basketball for a local team.
“ ”“The first basketball team I played for was the Lady Ballaholics. I was around 8-9 years old,” said Adkisson.
Adkisson said the journey has been great getting to this moment, but she is focused on the task at hand and making the most of every opportunity this season.
“This season I would say our toughest road game will be either Broken Arrow or Edmond North. However, atmosphere wise our rivalry game against Sand Springs is a pretty tough game as well,” said Adkisson.
Being around her teammates and preparing herself for the game is something Adkisson loves about the sport.
“I like to get a good all-around workout in. I normally start with ball handling, shooting, rebounding, and finishing with free throws. I normally get myself mentally prepared by listening to my pre- game playlist and start to analyze game situations in my head,” Adkisson said. “The teammate that keeps everyone laughing is one of our junior guards Makiya Lee, the most serious person on the team would probably be Kailynne Parker or myself.”
Adkisson said coach Calip has been a big influence in her life, on and off the court.
“Someone who has made an influence on my life is my head high school coach, coach Calip. She has taught me many life lessons on and off the court. I feel that she has made me a better player and person since being in her program.”
