Talking Track with Coweta’s Jorja Vermillion – Presented by Century 21 – Amanda Curtsinger

VYPE: Jorja, when did you start competing in track and field?

Jorja Vermillion: I was in 8th grade when I started, and I am now a sophomore.

VYPE: What do you love most about being on this team at CHS?
JV: I like how even if they are having a bad day they will still support you and help you out and encourage you to do your best. The throwers in Coweta are a small group but we are all very supportive of each other.

VYPE: Are you playing another sport in the fall or belong to any clubs or groups?
JV: I am also part of the Coweta volleyball team and I am a member of the National Honor Society program.

VYPE: What events are you competing in for track?

JV: My events are Shot Put and Discus.

VYPE: What is your biggest strength and what have you improved on the most?

JV: A good strength to have in throwing is to be able to block out the bad days and just focus on the good days. I think I have improved on my footwork the most. I am always working on my footwork to improve my throwing form. I have set a PR in both of my throwing events this season, and I am always trying to set a new record and beat myself.

VYPE: Which teammate has impressed you the most this season?

JV: I think Kaila has impressed me the most because she has worked very hard during practice and is getting better at every meet.

VYPE: Who inspires you?

JV: A person who has inspired me on and off the field is my older cousin, Dalton DeWeese. He is a thrower at OBU, and he helped during school to improve my footwork and my form, in order to help me get better. Even now that he is in college, he is still helping me. He even came back over spring break to throw with me again.

VYPE: What makes Coweta High School a great place for you as a student-athlete?

JV: Coweta has an excellent athletic program, and the staff is very supportive and understanding for those in sports. Coach Snider is my throwing coach. He is always supportive and helping us improve at practices and at meets. When I have a bad day, he is there to tell me to brush it off and focus on the next throw and the next meet.

VYPE: How do you like to spend your free time?
JV: I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and playing volleyball.

VYPE: How are you going to spend your summer?
JV: I plan on going on a couple vacations over the summer, working, and getting in some volleyball practice and working on some discus throwing too.

VYPE: What are you goals for life after high school?
JV: My goal after high school is to go to the University of Oklahoma and work on getting my degree in dentistry.
