Union’s Kennedy Alexander

A doubles player for the Union Redhawks, Kennedy Alexander started playing tennis in the seventh grade and is now a junior playing for the varsity team.

The junior said she doesn’t need to look far for inspiration on or off the court.

“My mom inspires me because she is the most hardworking person I know and leads a great example every day. She is always there for me and never fails to show how proud she is,” said Alexander.

As a player, Alexander said she loves her teammates and the support she receives from family, coaches and teachers.

“There is so much to love about my teammates. They are some of my best friends and always cheer me on. They always know how to make me laugh and never fail to lift my spirits. I am constantly reminded of how lucky I am to have them in my life,” Alexander said. “It means the world to me that so many people want to see me succeed and continue to be present in my life. I couldn’t do anything with without my families support and my coaches flexibility.”

Alexander has continued to work on her game and improve.

“I think one of my strengths is my serve, and something that I feel has improved during the season so far is my backhand,” said Alexander.

To stay mentally sharp for competition, Alexander said maintains a positive attitude.
“Usually before competing I like to set progress goals, rather than outcome goals like winning. This helps me eliminate stress and be able to enjoy every moment. I take it one match or game at a time and try to keep a positive attitude.”

Alexander said it can be difficult to balance schoolwork with athletics, but it’s something she is mastering to prepare herself for life after high school.

“I’m am undecided on what I want to pursue, but I do know I want to attend college and possibly play a sport as well.”
