Bishop Kelley’s Will Essman
When Bishop Kelley’s Will Essman steps onto the court this season, he will be starting his final season of prep basketball. Essman started playing basketball when he was only five years old. Comets coach Brandon Maddux said Essman had a great summer and has taken his game to the next level.
“A smooth 6-foot-8 lefty that has deep range. Has really worked on his game off the bounce and scoring inside. A sneaky shot blocker as well,” said coach Maddux.
Essman said he’s been impressed with his teammates coming into the season and is looking forward to taking the court and competing with them.
“ ”“This season senior Beau Goodwin has been very impressive in practices and scrimmages,” Essman said. “Senior Connor Kelley is the jokester of the team and always knows how to make a room fun.”
It’s a close group at Bishop Kelley, and Essman said the team loves to have fun on and off the court.
“The best thing about my teammates is everyone knows how to have fun. We are a fun group, but we still know when it is time to be serious and lock in. We have a healthy balance,” said Essman.
One memory that stands out for Essman is winning the Port City Classic Tournament as a sophomore. Essman said what makes Bishop Kelley so special is the support they get from the students and Kelley community.
“The community comes together to support all sports which makes a great environment to be a part of.” Also a baseball player, Essman said his favorite subject is English with Mrs. Sutton.
