Amelia Johnson got into golf as a young child. Her early experience included being on the course with her dad riding around in the golf cart. Her dad and grandparents are all avid golfers. It was natural for Amelia to pick up the sportas well.
Now a senior, Amelia is a competitive golfer for Bishop Kelley High School. As her golf game became more serious, she followed advice given by her dad. “This doesn’t determine your future or how successful you’ll be. It’s just golf.”
She learned valuable lessons on the course. “Golf has taught me to not dwell on every little thing and to move past every bad shot and focus on the next. I’m passionate about my sport because it brings me joy and constantly challenges me,” she said.
Part of being on a team is forming relationships with teammates. Elle Stanger and Peyton Coburn have shown Amelia what it means to be a leader and a good teammate. “They work so hard and care so much about their team and it shows in everything they do,” says Amelia.
Amelia is proud to represent her school as an athlete where her actions show people what BK stands for as a school. Teachers like coach Burkes make the school a place students want to be. “He makes class fun and I look forward to it every day. He never fails to make me, and my classmates laugh,” she said.
Amelia is thankful to her parents for every opportunity and resource they have given to further her success. Her grandmother grew-up in the Philippines and Amelia would love to travel there with her family to see where her grandma grew up. “You guys work so hard, and I know it isn’t always easy but thank you.
“Thank you to Coach Garrett for putting up with me. I appreciate you more than you know. And thank you to my former and current teammates. You guys make going to practice every day worth it,” she said.
Amelia also plays volleyball and is in Student Council, Class Board, Comet Ambassadors, Link Crew, NCL, Brother B, Athletic Leadership and NHS.
