Lincoln Christian School junior outfielder Lane Hunter does not have to think long when asked what he enjoys most about Bulldogs baseball.
“What I love most about my team is how much crap we give each other and how no one takes anything too serious,” Hunter said. “It keeps the game fun and helps us stay loose when the pressure is on.”
Hunter, who plays all three outfield spots for the Lincoln Christian varsity, prides himself on doing the little things right in the field. He relies on his speed and instincts to track balls in the gap but said the position brings its own unique challenges. “I play all three outfield spots and the hardest thing about those is either catching a fly ball right in the sun or catching a fly ball with a high wind,” Hunter said.
Defense and speed are the strengths of his game, but he is far from satisfied. “The strength of my game is defense and speed and I’m currently working to improve my hitting,” he said. Athletics, he added, has shaped his mindset far beyond the diamond. “Athletics has taught me not to quit when things get hard and keep going through it all.”
In the classroom, Hunter leans toward the past. His favorite subject is history, and he points to Lincoln Christian teacher Mr. Moneypenny as a key influence during the school day. He is also a member of the National Honor Society, balancing honors-level academics with his varsity schedule.
Faith and family sit at the center of Hunter’s life. “What makes representing Lincoln so special is that I can be open about my faith on and off the field and representing the name that comes with playing for Lincoln,” he said. He credits his mother as his biggest inspiration. “My mom inspires me because she’s hardworking and highly respected in her line of work,” Hunter said.
Away from school and baseball, Hunter is most at home outdoors. “In my free time I enjoy hunting, fishing or anything outdoors,” he said. Around the Bulldogs, he points to outfielder Beaux Brumble as the most vocal teammate and Silas Goff as the one who keeps everyone laughing in the dugout.
