Metro Christian’s Vivian Welker
It was kindergarten when Metro Christian junior Vivian Welker got her first taste of life as a cheerleader. She was hooked from the beginning.
Now a member of the varsity squad, Welker said this season was full of many great things for her personally and as a team.
“This season was a season of growth and development. For me, a moment that sticks out was at NCA, our national’s competition, when our team had overcome so many obstacles and managed to perform perfectly after not hitting our stunts the day before,” said Welker.
“ ”Her passion for the sport and her teammates is obvious. From leaving an impression on the team to keeping everyone laughing, everyone has their place with this group.
“This season a teammate that has left an impression on me is Molly Gurzi. Molly Gurzi experienced horrible knee pain and almost had to drop out of our national’s competition, but because of her dedication to the team she preserved and showed her strength inspiring me to work harder daily,” Welker said. “The teammate who keeps everyone laughing is definitely Camdyn Neeley. She is always putting smiles on everyone’s faces and encouraging them. The teammate who is the most serious is Rhiannon Roberts, she is always super focused and ready to show the team the determination she has to win.”
Getting a good education is another priority for Welker. The junior attends an ACT prep course at Huntington Learning Center and is seeing great results. Results she will need to meet her educational goals. “My goal for life after high school is to go to Med school and become a doctor to help those around me,” Welker said. “Metro allows me to not only be in dual credit courses, focusing on my academics, but allowing me to play multiple sports while providing the help to make me succeed.”
Welker said she is inspired by her mother, Valerie.
“The person who inspires me most is my mom. She is such a perfect role model and an amazing, strong, independent woman. She offers me support in all I do and helps me daily grow in what it means to be a Christian,” said Welker.
