Q&A with Holland Hall’s Leah Beakey

VYPE: What grade are you currently in and how long have you been playing basketball?
Leah Beakey: I’m in 12the grade and have been playing basketball since kindergarten.
VYPE: What position do you play and what position would you like to play?
LB: I am a guard, and I enjoy playing this position!
VYPE: What do you love most about your teammates?
LB: I love the supportive atmosphere and the laughs we share. Some of my best high school memories are from staying in hotels during tournaments with my teammates and the fun times we’ve had in the locker room. I can always count on them to support me during basketball and outside of basketball. They are always people I can rely on and people who will lift me up.
VYPE: What are your favorite pregame and postgame meals?
LB: My favorite pregame meal is a sandwich from Jimmy John’s. Before home games, the whole team goes to Jimmy John’s together. After the game, I love a chicken sandwich and a frozen lemonade from Chick-Fil-a.
“ ”VYPE: Are you involved in any other clubs or groups at the school? If so, what are they?
LB: I am involved in the Student Council and SPUD (Students Participating in Unselfish Deeds) Club. This year I am also serving as the Oklahoma Associations of Student Councils District 7 Vice President. I also run Cross Country.
VYPE: What opponent do you look forward to playing this season?
LB: I look forward to playing Victory Christian. They’re always tough competition and help us improve as a team.
VYPE: Who is the greatest basketball player of all time?
LB: Caitlin Clark
VYPE: Who has been a big influence in your life and why?
LB: One of the biggest influences in my life is my Student Council advisor Mrs. Phillipa Kelly. She has an action-oriented, empathetic mindset and is someone I always look up to. Her mentorship has been vital to my growth as a leader and a person throughout the High School.
VYPE: What are your plans for after graduation?
LB: I plan to major in Public Health and minor in Nutrition and eventually attend medical school. I’m still deciding on what college to attend.
