Ty Mabrey
Holland Hall
VYPE: Ty, when did you know football was the sport for you?
Ty Mabrey: I started playing tackle football in 6th Grade, but I played flag football much earlier than that. All three of my older brothers played it from a young age all the way through high school. My Dad played at Austin College and was a GA for the Duke football team for a couple years. My oldest brother Will is 10 years older than me, and I remember countless times sitting and watching his practices from the side, and I couldn’t wait until that was me wearing the pads and helmet.
VYPE: What other sports or activities are you involved in?
TM: I ran track in the spring during my first couple years of high school, but I developed terribly painful shin splints my sophomore season. So, football has been my sole focus my Junior and senior year.
VYPE: What makes Holland Hall a great place to be a student-athlete?
TM: There’s an amazing sense of community at Holland Hall that’s hard to describe unless you experience it.
VYPE: Where does your work ethic come from?
TM: I’d say that my work ethic comes from always wanting to make my brothers and parents proud of me. Growing up and seeing how hard all of them worked in their individual lives motivated me to do the same.
VYPE: What do you love most about your teammates?
TM: I love how much passion my teammates have in whatever they are doing. Obviously, I love how much care about football, and it’s evident with the work that they put in during and outside of practice.
VYPE: Give me your dream scenario for this season.
TM: My dream scenario for this season is to win a State Championship. That is and always will be the goal. There’s no better feeling than having football practice in December.
VYPE: How do you spend your down time?
TM: I’ve found myself enjoying “must watch” movies and TV shows. Classics like The Godfather, The Shawshank Redemption, and I recently finished Game of Thrones. I’m a huge Minnesota Vikings fan, so unless there’s somewhere I have to be, I’m watching every second of the game.
VYPE: Who has made a big impact in your life?
TM: My mom is the hardest working and most selfless person you will ever meet. Raising four boys is a tough task alone, but raising all of them to be kind, courageous, and hardworking adults is even more difficult.
VYPE: What are your plans for life after high school?
TM: I don’t think I’ll be playing football in college, but I know that I’m going to be involved with the game in some way. I’m hoping to get into either Sports Management, or maybe even Sports Media. And either way, I want to be working in and around football.
