Regent Prep’s Meg Goodwin – Volleyball Spotlight – Presented by Gibraltar

High school student-athletes can seem like their abilities just come natural, and for many that is the case, but even those who are blessed with talent typically work hard to sharpen that talent and spend hours preparing themselves for that moment when everyone expects them to rise to the occasion and make a play.

Meg Goodwin at Regent Prep is such a player. Her hard work and dedication to her craft has landed her the opportunity to play volleyball at the next level once her playing days at Regent Prep come to an end.

“This season I have worked to improve my defense and blocking for college volleyball at the University of Tulsa next year,” said Goodwin.

Her volleyball journey began early in life, but once she got a taste of the sport, Goodwin said she knew this was the sport for her.

“I started playing volleyball in the sixth grade and fell in love with it at a volleyball camp at age 11. I love the team aspect of volleyball, but since I am a setter, I am the quarterback of the team. I get to lead my team as the captain and run the floor which is my favorite part about the sport. I also have loved playing with my sister this season,” said Goodwin.

Being a student-athlete at Regent Prep is special for Goodwin and her teammates, on or off the court.

“The tight knit community makes Regent a special place to be an athlete. Everyone comes and supports every game which makes playing a sport that much more special,” said Goodwin. “My sister Evelyn definitely keeps everyone laughing with her honest sarcasm, and the most serious player on our team is Ellen Jenkins.”

Goodwin said her biggest influence in her family. When she has free time, she enjoys spending it with family.

“The biggest influences in my life are definitely my parents. They are so supportive and attend all of my games and have always been there for me on and off the court,” Goodwin said. “When I have down time, I love hanging out with my family, playing with my dogs, and enjoying the outdoors listening to country music.”

During her playing career, Goodwin has had many memorable moments, but one stands out.

“My favorite memory in volleyball is winning my first gold ball at Show Me National qualifier at age 14. Our team worked so hard that season and it all paid off at that tournament,” said Goodwin.

Goodwin plans to obtain a degree at TU and pursue a career in medicine. Goodwin passed along the best advice she has ever received, on or off the court.
“Always do everything to the best of my ability so that I can glorify God on and off the court.”
