Track Spotlight with Bishop Kelley’s Malana Eureste – Presented by Patriot Auto

Bishop Kelley’s Malana Eureste

Lady Comet senior Malana Eureste has competed on the track since the fifth grade when she ran for the All-Saints team. Today she is a senior and in her final year of prep athletics.

Eureste has made the most of every opportunity Bishop Kelley has to offer a student.

“I am the student council president, involved in Link Crew, Kelley Krazies, Book Club, Freshman Retreat leader, Search Leader, Freshman retreat attendee, Sophomore retreat attendee, Search Retreat Attendee, Kairos Retreat Attendee, Quest Youth Ground, Comet Ambassador, and Class Board,” Eureste said. “Bishop Kelly is perfect for a student athlete because we have blocked scheduling. This is perfect for anyone who is involved in a sport or other extracurriculars because you’re able to dedicate more thorough and efficient time to each thing you’re doing with less transition periods, especially between classes.”

Her passion for her school and her teammates is obvious.

“I love that my teammates share a good work ethic with me. They are working hard, and this pushes me to work hard with them. They also are all so encouraging, and we have such a positive and close team dynamic. Through a weekend retreat, breakfast after some practices, time spent singing in the locker room, and even our weekends competing together definitely have created friendships that will last a lifetime,” said Eureste.

Competing in the 400-meters, 4×400 relay, 4×800 relay, and the 800-meters requires the runner to maintain a fast pace, while not getting tired or winded. She said she finds inspiration in someone she is close to.

“An inspiration to me off the track is my grandpa. He had two heart attacks early on in his life, but he still manages to swim a mile every day, attend church, attend yoga with my grandma as well as be the most selfless man I know. He brings breakfast to my little sister and me once a week before school. He truly is a role model of love and what family really means,” said Eureste. Eureste will attend college at the University of Arkansas new year, majoring in Biology.
