Victory Christian Conquerors – Football Team Preview

VICTORY CHRISTIAN CONQUERORS

Coach: RJ Wakley

4-6

OFFENSE
RJ Wakley is taking over the Conquerors football program for former head coach Brett Smith. Coach Wakley inherits a roster he is familiar with having been a member of the coaching staff last season. The Conquerors will look to a number of underclassmen this year including Blake Bartmann (5-11, 185, So.) at running back who averaged 6.7 yards per carry as a freshman. Cooper Olson (6-0, 200) and Tyler Wilson (6-2, 240, Jr.) will anchor the offensive and defensive lines this season. Olson and Wilson will fill some holes left by players who transferred out, but the group is optimistic they can get the job done. A small but talented trio of seniors are key for the Conquerors this season. That group includes Dallas Dyer (5-10, 190) who can play multiple positions, Ethan Aeschleman (5-11, 190) who like Dyer can line up in multiple spots, and Sum Hoih at wide receiver. “This group brings back toughness and a lot of leadership to a team that will start the season with one of the toughest Non-District and District schedules in the state,” said coach Wakley. Two sophomores are battling it out for the starting QB role. Maceo Miller and Brandon Flowers could split time this season with each bringing their own set of unique traits to the field. Eli Dyer (Jr.) and Logan Roper (Jr.) could have breakout seasons this year. Both are athletic players who have a lot of offer the units on both sides of the ball.

DEFENSE

The defense is focused on erasing the 4-6 record from a year ago that witnessed four losses as one possession games in the fourth quarter. The defensive secondary features Braxton McGinnis (5-8, 160), a two-way player who can help this team eliminate the big plays. Hoih will play DB as well alongside Eli Dyer. Dom Lorae (6-5, 215, So.) is another player who can make a big difference this season. Lorae will play defensive end where his length and quickness will cause problems for opposing offenses looking to throw the ball downfield. Lorae could see time at tight end on offense. Olson and Wilson will join Lorae in the trenches. The coaching staff consists of Ted Davis, Bill Bartmann, Jace Wright, Trey McVay, Caleb Edwards, Scott Rossman, and James Doctor.
