Victory Christian’s Canton Brown
Golf may be a spring sport but playing the game throughout the winter is something every high school golfer in Oklahoma will try to do. Players like Canton Brown of Victory Christian School will spend countless hours hitting and putting to improve his game.
“I practice a lot,” Brown said. “Plenty of good range sessions.”
Entering his junior season, Brown said he started playing golf in the fifth grade and loves the sport.
“The thing I most enjoy is making putts, my favorite place to play is South Lakes Golf Course in Jenks,” Brown said. “The thing I enjoy the most about our team is being coached by coach Ted. He’s a great coach and makes golf fun.”
Every golfer has a favorite shot to hit. For Brown it’s a shot that most golfer would struggle to master, but Brown has not only made it his own, but he also has a name for it.
“ ”“By far my favorite shot to hit is a little baby cut. I’m a lefty, so I call it a Bubba Cut,” said Brown.
When his time at Victory Christian School comes to an end, Brown said he would like to attend the school of another golfer he admires.
“My plan after high school is to attend Oklahoma State University. I admire Rickie Fowler a lot. He’s a great example to follow and he wears incredible PUMA outfits. I probably have 15-20 PUMA hats…not kidding,” said Brown.
When asked about the goal for this season, Brown was quick to answer. “This year the goal is to take two individuals to state. Should be a good year!”
