Victory Christian’s Genesis Helsley
It’s an exciting time for seniors in Oklahoma but putting on your school’s uniform for the last time is bittersweet. Victory Christian’s Genesis Helsley is experiencing just that as a member of the varsity soccer team.
Helsley started playing soccer at a very young age. Her passion for the game fuels her goals which this season means making the playoffs. For Helsley, helping her team and doing it with her teammates is something special.
“We all get along well. Lizzy Wehrli, has stepped up and took on the role of goalkeeper and that’s a pretty tough position. She is tough and fearless,” said Helsley.
Helsley said she’s focused on the game and does not worry about what other teams or people think about her game.
“I don’t know I just play. Maybe other people would say speed, IQ, focus, and touch are my strengths. I’ve improved on being more vocal,” said Helsley.
As a student-athlete at VCS, Helsley said it’s a great place to learn and play.
“In the sports for VCS I’ve played they focus on being a team, we work hard, push each other to be our best and keep God as our focus,” said Helsley.
The senior said her teammates keep it interesting and have fun while taking the game serious.
“Afton Gwartney is pretty funny, but I have to say Annabelle Edwards from my club team is the funniest and most hype teammate ever! Gianna is pretty serious,” said Helsley.

The next chapter for Helsley includes taking her talents across the street to Oral Roberts University where she will play soccer while pursuing her degree. Helsley said she’s inspired to succeed by her sister. “Jadyn Chee, my sister, because she played at some tough schools, and in her fifth year, finished as an NCAA Championship runner-up. Off the field, she’s battled through injuries and life struggles but never gave up, which pushes me to keep going no matter what,” said Helsley.
