Victory Christian’s Sarah Beltran

Sarah Beltran is a senior at Victory Christian School who found her love for basketball after her dad encouraged her to play. Beltran values having good character on and off the court. In her words, “It’s about doing the right thing, even when no one is looking.”

This was instilled in her by both of her parents whom she looks up to.

“They have always been for me, so many sacrifices they’ve made for me,” she said. “My father has always been my coach for AAU, always pushing me to do my best. I wouldn’t be where I am today is it wasn’t for the countless hours of training and fighting. [Laughs] My mother has always been there for me also, she always helped me with the mental health side of playing sports. She always has my back and just tells me to keep pushing through and play free. I couldn’t thank them enough!”

Beltran says that the best part of being a high school athlete is making new friends and being part of a team.

“You work together to reach goals, support each other, and share both the good and tough times,” she said. “It helps you learn important skills like teamwork, leadership, and staying focused, all while feeling proud of your school and team.”

When Beltran looks back over her basketball career, her favorite memory comes from last year, her first year at VCS.

“We started off the year very low on confidence,” she said. “Throughout the losses and lessons, we decided to make a change and we started clicking as a team. Going into playoffs we started winning back-to-back games and made it really far. Ended up losing in the area game, but that journey was so much fun.”

Beltran is encouraged by the friends, family, and fellow Conquerors who cheer the team on.

“Always seeing that people care and are there supporting us makes me play better,” she said. “Also just knowing that I’m playing for God, all the glory goes to him, I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for him. He gifted me with the abilities to breathe and run so I need to give it all I got for Him.”

After graduation Beltran has committed to Hesston College in Kansas on a scholarship to continue playing basketball.
