Prodigy Softball with Mark Ott
There are many places you can go to learn what it takes to be a great softball player, but very few focus on the person and building a family type unit. That’s what they are doing at Prodigy Softball.
“Travis Scott was the main driving force behind Prodigy. He wanted to make softball affordable so that players weren’t priced out of being able to play,” Ott said. “We want to help them grow not only as a player but as a person. Prodigy is growing and expanding in the lower ages. My 18u is finding out just how much the 16u is watching them, idolizing them so to speak. Grade checks are a huge part of the process also. We want the kids to be well-rounded when they leave and leave prodigy in a better place than where they found it. We are building a family. Not an organization.”
It’s simple for coach Ott, making it to the next level requires a lot of work, but focusing that energy into what’s going to help you make it there is discipline behind Prodigy.
“Not sure it is a mission statement but if your daughter desires to play at the next level, we will help get them there,” said Ott.
Prodigy is an Oklahoma only effort and while it would be easy to sign players from other state, Ott and Prodigy is raising the bar for Oklahoma athletes.
“As a coach, I have seen to many teams not be able to take advantage of early season tournaments due to states like Texas, Arkansas and Kansas kids not being able to play since they are playing high school ball at that time. With Okies only, the girls are able to get to practice and tournaments so that we are ready when the spring/summer season gets in full swing,” said Ott.
Any player looking to move on to the next level, should be involved in a program like Prodigy.
“Coaching, coaching, coaching. Once you master one thing, time to move on to the next. Young ladies that want to play college ball will get way worse than anything they will get from me. I try hard to prepare them for that,” said Ott.
In a world of navigating new NIL laws, Prodigy is developing answer to questions the parents and player want to know.
“We are currently navigating this process. Ideally, I would love for all Prodigy 18u players and even the 16’s to be backed by a partnership. But only the right sponsorships. Prodigy is in the works with a business at this moment.
