VYPE: What aspect of working in the education field do you find most rewarding?
Christopher Appel: My favorite part about working in education is helping change lives. There are many businesses and jobs in our community, but very few that have a direct impact on children and teenagers’ academic skills, confidence, motivation, and futures. We have students in our community who desire support to fill in academic gaps, work on advanced subjects, prepare for college exams, or study for upcoming tests. We can help with all of these needs and goals.
VYPE: Tell us about yourself and your connection to the community.
CA: My wife and I are both in education. My wife, Lee, has taught elementary grade levels (2nd through 4th) and now works in the special education department to support students from elementary to high school. We have been married for 22 years and have 3 children. Our daughter, Ana, just graduated high school and will start at Oral Roberts University this fall. Our son, Greyson, will be in 8th grade. Our son, Graham, will be in 6th grade. We are involved in our church, athletics, school, and community business events.
VYPE: How do you believe Huntington Learning Center can best help our students in the coming years?
CA: We are here to serve the students and families in our community. We have an incredible curriculum for supplementary education and test prep. We have fantastic teachers. We will continue to help individual students build their academic skills, study for tests, and prepare for college. My hope is that we can begin helping even more students by partnering with school districts that want to bolster their students’ reading skills, math skills, writing skills, specific subject support, and/or ACT/SAT skills. We have programs to come alongside a school or a school district to help support their goals.
