The Future Farmers of America program offers students the opportunity to learn subjects that they might not otherwise. While some of those subjects pertain to agriculture, there are some that help them learn things that will help them later in life, no matter what career path they chose. London Poindexter is a sophomore at Bixby High School and she is a member of the Bixby chapter of the FFA. She says that the group has given her a lot of opportunities.
“I’ve been in FFA since I was in eighth grade,” she said. “What helped me join and continue being an FFA student was understanding that I could flourish in my own ways through public speaking and gaining friendships within the community. As of now I am on the Bixby FFA Livestock Showing Team showing Weathers, Public Speaking team for Creed Speaking, and I currently hold the position of being the FFA chapter Secretary for 2024-2025.”
There have been a number of people that have played a role in London becoming who she is today. But she has a few that have had a bigger impact.
“My biggest role models in life are my parents and God,” she stated. “My parents always continue to positively influence me because they push me and support me in everything I do to make me the best version of myself in every aspect of life. Jesus has always played a big role in my life because he’s my best friend and the mentor who’s always been there for me through the good and bad, making me a better person, sibling, athlete, friend, student, and daughter in Christ.”
Bixby’s FFA Director, Brandon Sellers, says that Poindexter has been an outstanding addition to the program.
“London has found great success in her first year at Bixby because of how passionate she is about FFA. She is an extremely talented public speaker as well as showman,” he said.
