Bixby Middle School’s Jake Darr
In the fall of 2022, Jake Darr started his coaching career with Bixby Public Schools. Now in his third year, coach Darr says his former coach influenced him to become a coach and pursue teaching as a profession.
“My high school coach, Clay Martin (Jenks High School) has influenced me both as a player and a coach. My coaching style has been largely influenced by being under the leadership of our head varsity coach, Lance Kight. His style of fast-paced and fearless basketball is something I have definitely adopted,” said Darr.
Currently, coach Darr is coaching one of the three eighth grade basketball teams Bixby has and he is an assistant coach for the high school team. Darr said when his players move to the next level, he hopes they keep their passion for the game.
“I hope they never lose their passion and drive. Our ultimate goal is to turn boys into men, and I think that starts with leading by example on and off the court,” said Darr.
“ ”Looking at the upcoming season, coach Darr said everyone is excited to take the court and see what the teams can accomplish.
“I am very pleased with the start of our season. We have guys at all grade levels 8-12, that show up to compete and get better every day.”
In the classroom, coach Darr teaches 8th grade Science & Kinetic Anatomy and Bixby Middle School. When time allows, coach Darr said he enjoys being outdoors.
“In my free time, I enjoy sitting by the campfire and listening to music. I also spend plenty of time watching sports!”
