Coweta’s Macee Matthews
By Rebekah McIntosh
Recently committed to Missouri Southern State University for basketball, Macee Matthews is determined to make her senior year unforgettable and finish strong with her team.
Macee says, “My personal goal is to do everything I can to get my team back to the state tournament. Our team goal is to bring home a gold ball! Making the state tournament my junior year has been my favorite memory and beating Tahlequah and Grove to get to state.”
Matthews knows the importance of being a good role model and making an impact both on and off the court. Parker Curtsinger, a 6th grader at Mission Intermediate Grader Center, shares what it’s like to practice with Matthews. “Macee is funny and she helps me get better at basketball,” Parker says. “She has helped me with ball handling and shooting.” Parker is a member of the 6th grade Grand Champion cheer squad, K2C AAU basketball team and the 7th grade Coweta Black INBC team. When Macee goes famous, Parker would like a signed autographed ball.
Giving back to the youth program is a way Macee has learned to inspire the next generation of athletes.
Macee says, “coaching Parker has taught me to be patient and how to share my love of basketball with the younger kids. It also shows me how far I’ve come because I was once her age just beginning my basketball journey.”
“ ”Her dedication doesn’t stop with practices with Parker and games. Macee is committed to rigorous workouts and constant improvement with ISO Basketball’s club coach, Brandon Love. Brandon has spent countless hours in the gym with Macee and is proud of the mentor she has become.
“Macee has an incredible way of lifting others up with her positive energy and unwavering dedication. She’s not only a talented athlete but also a caring mentor who genuinely wants to see those around her succeed.” He said.
Matthews signed with MSSU because of the home-like environment and is excited about her future in college basketball.
“I chose MSSU because of the values that Coach Ressel has instilled in his players and program. The deciding factor for me was how much the coaches made me feel at home.” She said. “I’m looking forward to getting to grow and develop under new coaches and staff.”
Macee knows that no matter what the future holds, she will always be grateful for the game and the opportunities given.
She says, “Thank you for supporting me in everything I do. Thank you for paying for all my trainings and trips all over the country. I couldn’t do it without you. I love you!”
With her talent, leadership, and passion for the game, Macee Matthews is a name to watch — not just this season, but for years to come.
