Coweta’s Tohmi Carney
Coming into the 2024-25 season, Coweta High School’s Tohmi Carney was poised for a solid season after an excellent season as a freshman.
Carney started wrestling when he was only five years old, now a sophomore, Carney wrestled hard this year at the state tournament and finished third at 132-pounds. Carney defeated Bryson Burton of Duncan with a pin and is now a two-time state placer.
“My strength for my skill set is my work ethic I believe I work hard, and I’ve improved on my mindset and leadership,” said Carney.
Carney finished the season 32-7 and said he was thankful for the support he receives from his school, coaching staff and teammates.

“Coweta has a phenomenal coaching staff that has helped me become who I am today and the people at Coweta encourage me,” Carney said. “Legend Ellis has improved a lot this season and made me a better wrestler.”
“ ”Being part of the team is something special for the sophomore.
“What I love most about my teammates we push each other, and I love how funny they are but when it’s time to be serious we get serious,” Carney said. “Toby Shipman is the teammate that makes me laugh and my whole team is serious when it’s time to be serious.”
Carney said he is inspired by his father who has helped him with his wrestle and life. Carney hopes to one day wrestle at the next level.
“I would love to go to college to wrestle and I have options for when I get older but I’m not entirely sure what I want to do,” said Carney.
