Bixby’s Larra Mullin
Bixby High School wrestler Larra Mullin has been wrestling for about 12 years now, starting at the young age of four. Her love of the sport came very naturally.
“I started wrestling because all my older brothers wrestle and I would get bored at their tournaments, so I just decided I was going to wrestle and I haven’t stopped since,” said Mullin.
Mullin admires her brothers in many ways and is especially inspired by one of her brothers’ stories.
“I look at my brother Jim as my inspiration because he could’ve been one of the best wrestlers probably in the world, but he got a severe brain injury so he couldn’t wrestle anymore,” she said. “But he did everything he could to get back on the mat and wrestle again and after about four years he was finally able to wrestle and is now wrestling at OSU.”
In addition to competing, Mullin enjoys the general camaraderie of being part of a team.
“ ”“My favorite memory in high school so far has probably been all of our bus rides,” she said. “They are so much fun and we all blast music and dance.”
When it comes to her teammates, Mullin had her two cents about who was the strongest, loudest, and most fun.
“Jadyn Roller is the wrestler I would not want to go against but somehow she is my wrestling partner every day,” she said. “Everyone is pretty loud, but I would have to say the loudest is Aiyana Perkins, she also keeps everyone laughing and makes the practices fun.”
For a post-match meal, Mullin is no stranger to Chick-fil-A
“After I wrestle or weigh in, I always want some type of chicken so most of the time it is Chick-fil-A chicken.”
When it comes to school, Mullin says history is her favorite subject, “because it is super interesting most of the time.”
After graduation, Mullin plans to continue her education at the college level and hopes to be able to wrestle at a D1 school.
