Bishop Kelley’s Landon Wong – Tennis Spotlight – Presented by Genesis Health Clubs

Genesis Tennis – Landon Wong – Bishop Kelley

Bishop Kelley senior Landon Wong started playing tennis when he was only four years old at the Tucker Tennis Academy. Wong is now one of the top players in the state and is looking forward to competing at the prep level this year while representing the Comets.

“My goals for this season are to win the Oklahoma State Championship in the Class 6A division,” Wong said. “I like playing singles, but doubles are my favorite to play because you have a teammate on the court with you. Doubles makes tennis a team sport and prevents players from feeling isolated on the court.”

Coming into the season, Wong said he has continued to work on his skill set and improve in areas he feels will help him reach his goals.

“The strength of my skill set is being mentally engaged without losing focus and becoming frustrated on the court,” said Wong.

Setting and reaching goals are a priority for every tennis player. Wong is a Genesis Tennis athlete and said it has helped him improve his game.

“Genesis has provided the right facilities and players to compete against. They have brought coaches who want the most focus and effort from their players every day,” Wong said. “In order to win a tennis match, you have to win the mental battle with yourself before the match starts. To mentally prepare myself for competition, I meditate and create a plan for what I am going to do on the court. I listen to music and talk to my teammates who calm my nerves.”

Genesis Tennis is more than just a place to play for Wong.

“I enjoy the players and time that the coaches invest to work with athletes to help them become better,” said Wong.

Before graduating and leaving for the campus of the University of Oklahoma, Wong said he plans to make the most of every opportunity at Bishop Kelley.

“My teammates are the people that push me to get better. They have characteristics and skills that I want to improve on. We go through every loss and win together and hold each other accountable when somebody is not doing their part,” said Wong.
