Holland Hall junior Rowan Stirling is ready to take the mound this spring with a quiet confidence built on continuity, chemistry and countless offseason reps.
“I am a junior,” Stirling said, introducing himself as a right-hand pitcher and infielder for the Holland Hall Dutch varsity baseball team.
He plays on one of the smallest rosters in the area, but he sees that as the team’s greatest strength.
“What I love most about my team and teammates is that we a super small team, everyone hangs out together, and there is more togetherness than there would be on a bigger team, with everyone rooting for each other,” Stirling said.
That closeness carries onto the field, especially on the pitching staff. “The biggest improvement in the coming season is that all of our pitchers returned, and everyone got better over the offseason,” he said.
Off the diamond, Stirling stays competitive in other ways. “In my free time, I enjoy playing golf and pickleball and watching sports,” he said.
He also leans on teammates to keep the dugout loose. “Clark Sanford is our most vocal teammate, and Trey Burleson keeps everyone laughing,” Stirling said.
Athletics, he said, has shaped his mindset beyond high school baseball. “Athletics has taught me the importance of consistency, making sure to focus on the things you can control and not put too much on the result,” Stirling said.
Looking ahead, Stirling hopes the lessons he has learned at Holland Hall will carry him to the next level. “After graduation, I plan to play baseball in college and pursue a degree in Sports Analytics,” he said.
