Lincoln Christian’s Stella Ferguson
Cheerleaders don’t get enough credit for how hard they work during the off-season and during the competition season. For Lincoln Christian’s Stella Ferguson, the challenges are made easier thanks to her team and the coaches at Lincoln Christian.
“Lincoln Christian has the most supportive and encouraging coaches, teammates, classmates and teachers. Everyone cheers each other on, prays for one another and shows Gods love,” Ferguson said. “Each and every coach pushes and challenges their athletes to be the best that they can be. My cheer coaches, Coach Dowler and Coach Bury exemplified this every day. Their guidance, love and support helped us to have one of the most accomplished years in Lincoln Cheer history.”
Ferguson started cheering when she was in elementary school. Now a junior, Ferguson said
She loves her teammates and her job on the squad.
“I love how encouraging, uplifting and funny my teammates are,” Ferguson said. “My main job on the squad is being a back-spot. I also tumble and help wherever or with whoever needs it on the team.”
Finding inspiration in her teammates, Ferguson said the person that she is inspired by the most is a family member.
“The person that inspires me the most and who I strive to be like is my sister, Addy Ferguson. She was a cheer captain in high school and is now a cheer captain in college. She puts in so much hard work, is creative, spirited, encourages team unity and is a great leader,” Ferguson said. “Hope Spohrer on my dance team is another person I admire, she is talented, kind and one of the strongest people I know. Her heart and belief in me helped me to believe in myself when I couldn’t.”
Ferguson is a dancer at Extension Dance Academy where she is an All-Star and performs different styles of dance. It’s something she plans on pursuing after high school.
“After high school, I plan on going to college, while continuing to pursue cheer and dance,” said Ferguson.
The junior said she has enjoyed many moments as a cheerleader including the little things like small improvements in her skills and the overall success of the team.
“I love the variety of what we do, the athletic challenge and seeing myself and my team improve so much over the years, while having fun and spending time with some of my best friends,” Ferguson said. “My favorite moment of my cheerleading career was when my amazing team won state this year! The last time Lincoln won was in 2011, so we have worked hard for many years to finally achieve this goal.”
Away from school, Ferguson said she enjoys doing activities with her friends, spending quality time with family and going on vacations.
