VYPE: Tyler, what grade are you in, and what age did you start playing baseball?
Tyler Sparks: I am a sophomore, and I started playing when I was four.
VYPE: What position are you playing for Sapulpa?
TS: I play 2nd base, catch, and pitch.
VYPE: What is the strength of your skill set and what did you improved on the most this season?
TS: I am a versatile player and can play any position needed. I am disciplined and work every day on and off the field. I put on 20 pounds in the weight room during the off season.
VYPE: What makes SHS a great place for you as a student-athlete?
TS: The coaching staff and teammates.
VYPE: What is your biggest challenge as a high school athlete and what accomplishment are you most proud of as an athlete?
TS: Controlling emotions. Most proud of learning to switch hit at the varsity level.
VYPE: What does the support from your parents, coaches and fans mean to you?
TS: It means everything and makes me believe in myself when they believe in me.
VYPE: How do you mentally prepare yourself for competition?
TS: It depends on what I’m doing in a game, but I love to compete, so my routine comes natural to me. When I am hitting, I stay as calm as I can to slow the game down. When I am pitching, get into my alter ego to get into my sweet spot.
VYPE: What do you love most about your teammates and who inspires you?
TS: We are determined and work together to accomplish a common goal. Coach Riley inspires me.
VYPE: What’s the goal for life after high school?
TS: My plan is to play baseball at the next level and get drafted one day.
