Broken Arrow’s Jon Broehl II
Football is more than just a game for Jon Broehl II. It is a way of life that sets the precedent for how he lives as a man. “Plan for everything and attack everything head-on.” are the biggest lessons he learned on the football field.
Jon is a senior who plays defensive end for Broken Arrow High School. “The process and the results that show on Friday night,” he says, are what he likes most about football. Jon’s favorite part of being on a team is seeing any player, at any moment, step into a leadership role during clutch moments.
Jon believes in leaving it all on the field. The best advice anyone has given him is “don’t ever be afraid to play with your heart on your sleeve.”
Being a high school athlete is an opportunity to impact the youth who look up to the players on the team. “When you can leave a positive impact behind on the youth, you hope it spreads for generations,” says Jon.
Jon himself looked up to a senior player as a freshman. Defensive end Alston Brown took Jon under his wing as a freshman. “He was always positive and when I had a question, he either knew it or tried to find out with me.”
Two teachers impacted Jon’s life. They are Mrs. Dibler, his seventh grade science teacher and Mrs. Vandervort, his English teacher. “They helped me with everything online because I struggled doing stuff, especially after COVID-19.”
Jon looks up to is his dad. “No matter what happens, he somehow finds a way to take care of me and my sisters before himself.” Jon is thankful to his mom and dad for everything. “From having to run back home to grab my jersey cause I left it or to helping with my fundraisers, y’all truly have been my number one supporters forever,” praised Jon.
He started playing in third grade. His older cousins played so it was natural for him to grow up loving football. Jon’s second love is video games. “I enjoy playing video games a lot. If I have any off time, that is what I’m doing,” he says.
Summer is a special time for Jon. “I go to the lake every year for the 4th of July. My summer going into freshman year was my favorite. I did not have a phone and I was just free on the lake for most of the trip,” he recalls.
Jon plans to continue his education to become a physical therapist.
