VYPE: What grade are you in this year and how long have you played at Holland Hall?
Addison Hendren: I am in the 11th grade, and I have been playing volleyball since I was in the 5th grade.
VYPE: What clubs or groups are you involved in at school?
AH: I am currently involved in the Ambassadors Club, and I am on the leadership team for the Medical Club.
VYPE: Do you have a favorite place to play? Why?
AH: I love to play on my home court, because it enables more opportunities for my classmates and family to attend the games. Playing on Holland Hall’s home court is unbeaten to me, I believe there is nothing that can compare to playing at home in front of your classmates and family.
VYPE: What is your favorite subject and who is your favorite teacher?
AH: My favorite subject is American History. I love being knowledgeable about my country and well informed about the events happening around the world. My favorite teacher is Mr. Anthony Cherry. Throughout my sophomore year, I had his class, and he made every day a new challenge, without forcing opinions on my classmates and I. We were given information on different United States Historical events and then given a prompt, using our gathered information we were able to solve problems and obtain new life skills.
VYPE: What teammate is always going to the floor for a dig?
AH: I think my teammate Blythe Confer is always willing to give everything for a point. She is always hustling for the ball and never gives up on a play.
VYPE: Who has impressed you the most on the team and why?
AH: My teammate Avery Robson is the person who has impressed me the most on and off the court this season. Being that she is the only senior, Avery has had big shoes to fill and has never complained, she is always early and willing to give advice to any of the freshmen during practice.
VYPE: What are your plans after you graduate? College?
AH: After I graduate from high school, I plan to go to college on the pre-medical tract. After completing college, I will attend medical school, where I will earn my MD/OD and enter my residency.
VYPE: Toughest gym to play in and why?
AH: I think the Cascia Hall gym is the toughest to play in. Since we are school rivals in almost every sport that is offered, there is always the need to win. The gym has a loud atmosphere that intensifies after every point and never seems to get quiet.
VYPE: Jump serve or standing serve? Which do you prefer and why?
AH: I prefer a standing serve. Personally, I feel I have the most control and power when both of my feet are touching the ground. With both of my feet on the ground I am able to achieve a more successful float serve every time I step back to the line.
