VYPE: Kennedy, what grade are you in this year?
Kennedy Welsh: I am a junior at Cascia Hall and have been going to school at Cascia since 6th grade.
VYPE: You’re a libero for Cascia Hall, so when did you decide volleyball was the sport for you?
KW: I first picked up a volleyball when I was really little, just playing around with my sister, who was already in club ball.
VYPE: What do you love most about your team and teammates?
KW: The best part about my teammates is the way we push each other and celebrate every little win together. We work hard together, stay disciplined, and trust each other on and off the court; we know we’ve got each other’s backs.
VYPE: Are you involved in any other clubs or groups at school?
KW: I am currently involved in the Chinese Club which is really fun because we get to try new types of food and learn about Chinese culture.
VYPE: Who inspires you? Explain.
KW: I have many inspirations in my life. My family is my biggest inspiration. They have shown me true love and the value of hard work time and time again. As far as volleyball goes, one of my greatest role models is Lexi Rodriguez because when I watch her play she chases down every ball, never gives up on a play, and has an insanely good work ethic, and a consistently positive attitude.
VYPE: Do you have a favorite subject in school? Who is your favorite teacher?
KW: My favorite subjects in school are anatomy and math. I have so many favorite teachers, it is way too hard to pick, but here are a few of them. Mrs. Mei Wu is my Chinese teacher, and she is truly the best teacher ever. I also love my confessions teacher, Deacon Beard. He is so funny, and he is willing to talk about issues with us and is always willing to dive deep into our questions. And lastly, Coach Estep is such a great teacher. He is so funny and never fails to make everyone laugh.
VYPE: What would you like to do after you graduate?
KW: I would really like to play D1 volleyball somewhere and pursue a degree in dermatology.
VYPE: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
KW: In my free time, I love hanging out with my friends and working out at Health Zone with my brother. I love to run with my parents and go on walks on Riverside.
