VYPE: What grade are you in, how long have you been cheering, and what originally got you interested?
Kaitlyn McNac: I am in the 12th grade, and I have been cheering since 1st grade. My aunt Jennifer was a cheerleader, and I love to dance and tumble.
VYPE: What position or role do you usually have on the team, and who is your biggest influence or role model for you in cheer?
KM: I am a senior captain, and I am a side base. My biggest influences are Memory Spencer, my varsity cheer coach freshman year, and Jodi Chronister, my current varsity cheer coach for the last three years.
VYPE: What has been your favorite memory with your cheer team so far?
KM: My favorite memory was going to Dallas and competing at the NCA National Cheer Competition.
VYPE: What’s the most challenging part of cheer for you, and how do you overcome it?
KM: The early morning practices are tough, but at the end of the day they’re always worth it!
VYPE: How do you motivate your teammates or bring energy to the squad?
KM: Before competitions I always try to speak positivity over my teammates before we perform!
VYPE: Have you received any special recognitions, nominations, or honors in cheerleading and are you involved in any other programs?
KM: I made the Universal Cheerleaders Association All-American team at the University of Oklahoma cheer camp. I am in the National Technical Honor Society at Indian Capital Technology Center.
VYPE: What are your plans after high school, and do you see cheer being a part of your future?
KM: After graduation, I am interested in collegiate-level cheer or pursuing cosmetology. Both are super exciting options!
VYPE: Do you have a favorite quote, motto, or piece of advice that inspires you in cheer?
KM: My favorite scripture would have to be from the Apostle Paul: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
VYPE: If you could describe your cheer experience in one word, what would it be and why?
KM: If I could describe my cheer experience in one word, it would be ‘competitive.’ It pushes you to be your best and strive to be great.
