BROKEN ARROW LADY TIGERS

Coach: SHANE COFFEY

2024-25 Record: 26-3

OUTLOOK

Last season the Lady Tigers made it to the semifinals after winning 26 games with only three loses on the season. Coach Shane Coffey is entering his fifth season with the Lady Tigers and coming into the new season, the team has a few roster changes that will give the team a new look.

“Our team is hungry to prove that we are team to be reckon with like previous teams. We have put in long hours during the summer working on our identity as a team, and so those things were seen in our final team camp of the summer. We are led by juniors, Janaya McCary and Suriah Matthew, who contributed big minutes on our 26-3 team a year ago. The expectation of these have continued to grow on and off the court,” coach Coffey said.

Janaya McCary (5-6, Jr.) averaged 2.0 points, 1.5 steals and 2.1 assists per game last season while Suriah Matthew (5-9, Jr.) averaged 2.6 points with 3.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists. The pair will be called on to lead the team this season and replace a lot of scoring from last season. Coach Coffey is looking for his senior and a couple of transfers to make a big impact this season.

“We also have a senior, Scarlett Shell, whose leadership is undeniable to our team. We also have two transfers that can help our team take the steps we need to get back into the state tournament. They are Gracie Sanders and Lia Peters. This team has a chance to be one of the deeper teams we have had in recent years,” coach Coffey said.

Sanders (5-11, Jr.) and Peters (5-10) are both a hybrid type player, versatile enough to play guard or forward. Sanders comes into the Tiger program from Coweta, bringing her ability to score and guard every position on the court. Peters is a Fort Gibson transfer and is one of the top athletes on the team. Peters also brings great defensive play to the court. Also look for Audrey Dow (5-11, Jr.) at forward who gain some valuable experience last season.

A few underclassmen figure into the scheme as well. Sophia Vogel is a highly skilled player and a solid three-point shooter. Grace Folly is a student of the game and continues to elevate her play. Jaslyn Varner is an explosive athlete, a playmaker and great ball defender. Cylee Johnson has a high ceiling and is one to watch as her play continues to develop. All three are expected to help the team this season and be the future of the program.
