When Jamie Roberts decided to continue her education in a program that allowed for her to keep her busy schedule, she found everything she wanted and more at Southern Nazarene University.
Currently working for Oklahoma State University as a Oklahoma City Wellness Center Operations Specialist certified in Exercise Physiologist through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), Roberts felt a master’s degree in Exercise Science from SNU would help keep her career moving forward.
“This degree is helping me grow both personally and professionally. It’s expanded my
understanding of health promotion, wellness programming, and exercise physiology, which
directly applies to my current role. It has also opened my eyes to different career paths within the field that I hadn’t considered before,” Roberts said.
Roberts is on track to graduate in May and she said she has encountered many pleasant surprises along way.
“I’ve really enjoyed the professors and the variety of expertise they bring to the classroom. Each instructor has unique experience and knowledge. They also do a great job connecting academic concepts to real-world applications. Their passion for teaching and support have made every class engaging and meaningful,” said Roberts. “I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how interactive and supportive the professors are, even in an online setting. The program feels very connected and personal, and I appreciate how approachable the faculty are when it comes to questions or professional guidance.”
SNU was the right choice for Roberts thanks to the flexible schedule, faith-based learning and the online format allowing her to balance course work, and a fulltime job. Roberts said anyone looking to continue their education should look at SNU.
“The university’s strong reputation for academic excellence and Christian values really aligned with what I was looking for in a graduate program,” said Roberts. “My advice would be to go for it, even if balancing work and school seems intimidating at first. The experience is worth it! Not just for career growth, but for the personal development and the confidence that comes with learning from professionals in your field. Finding a program that fits your lifestyle and values, like SNU did for me, makes all the difference.”
Away from school and work, Roberts said she enjoys being outdoors, boating, fishing and bowhunting.
“I also enjoy spending quality time with my husband and our two boys, along with our crew of animals that includes a cat, chickens, dogs, and a horse. And of course, I always make time for working out and staying active,” Roberts said.
