Webster’s Keyla Barthelemy

Freshman sprinter and jumper Keyla Barthelemy is already making her mark on the Daniel Webster High School Lady Warriors varsity track team, balancing big goals with a simple mindset: get better every day.

Barthelemy competes in the 100 meters, 200, 4×100 relay and long jump for Webster, embracing the challenge of juggling multiple events as a first-year varsity athlete. “I compete in the 100, 200, 4×100 and long jump,” she said.

What keeps her grounded is the tight-knit culture on the Lady Warriors squad. “I love how my close relationship with all my teammates and how we bond,” Barthelemy said. She credits her current teammates for pushing her in practice and meets, along with former teammate Patience Pitts, who left a lasting mark on her approach to the sport. “Someone who left an impression on me is my current teammates and Patience Pitts,” she said.

On the track, Barthelemy looks up to sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson, drawing motivation from the star’s speed and confidence. “My inspiration is Shakari Jackson,” she said, using the name as she knows it from social media highlights and interviews.

For Barthelemy, the toughest part of track is not the workouts or the races, but the constant push to outdo herself. “The hardest thing about track is bettering myself and getting fast than other people,” she said. She leans on a simple pre-race routine to stay calm. “The most important part of my routine is breathing in and knowing that I can always get better no matter what,” she said.

Barthelemy also plays basketball and hopes to continue both sports at the college level. “I would like to continue my basketball and track career in college,” she said. “My strength of my game is just getting better and I’m working on to get faster than everybody.”
