Bixby Freshman Brody McGuire is finding his stride in distance running, earning impressive achievements before even entering high school. Primarily competing in the 1,600-meters and 3,000 meters during the school season, he also challenges himself in the 800-meters and steeplechase events outside of school, embracing the full range of middle- and long- distance racing.
“I had tried almost every sport before this,” he said. He began running track three years ago after his father recognized his potential. “My dad wanted me to join track because I had SO much energy and never got tired in any of my other sports,” McGuire reflected. With seemingly endless energy and an unusual ability to stay strong when others tired, track became the natural fit.
His natural endurance and ability to maintain strength late in races has translated into success on the track. As a middle school athlete, McGuire had already established himself as one of the top young distance runners in the state, as well as on the national stage.

As an eighth grader in 2025, he ran the fastest mile among all Oklahoma middle schoolers, a performance that put him firmly on the radar of coaches statewide. The same summer, he added a national title to his resume, winning the gold medal in the 13- to 14-year-old 2000-meter steeplechase at the USATF Junior Olympics.
Now competing at the high school level, McGuire said his coaches have encouraged him to raise his expectations by racing against olde, more experienced athletes. With the support of coaches, teammates and family, McGuire stays focused on his long-term goals which include running at the college level.
“Thinking about my long-term goals keeps me motivated,” he said. “I want to run in college, so keeping my sights set on that keeps me inspired to work hard every day.”
With the support of those closest to him, he applies a process-oriented mindset emphasizing a commitment to steady improvement.
“My mom always says consistency over time is most important,” McGuire added.
Though just beginning his high school career, McGuire’s discipline and long-term approach point toward a future with plenty of room to grow. Already a standout, McGuire combines talent, focus, and determination, proving that the best is yet to come.
