Coweta’s Diego Sanz Talks Soccer – Presented by Century 21- Amanda Curtsinger

Coweta sophomore Diego Sanz has been around the game of soccer for as long as he can remember, and it shows every time he steps on the field. The 10th grader has been playing since he was four years old, developing a passion that continues to shape his daily life and his goals for the future.

In the classroom, Sanz gravitates toward the challenge of numbers and problem-solving. He lists geometry as his favorite subject and points to Mrs. Geiger as his favorite teacher, a combination that reflects the same focus and precision he brings to the pitch.

For Sanz, the best part of soccer goes far beyond wins and losses. He says he loves “how my teammates become family,” a bond that motivates him to compete and hold himself to a high standard. That sense of connection extends to the way he views the different roles on the field. Asked which position is the toughest, Sanz does not hesitate to highlight the goalkeeper. “I believe it is keeper, it has the most responsibility,” he said.

He added athletics are teaching him lessons that will matter long after high school. Sanz said the sport has instilled “discipline, responsibility and accountability,” qualities he knows will serve him in college, a career and everyday life.

Away from school and soccer, Sanz likes to unwind with video games and music. He enjoys playing Rocket League and listening to his favorite tracks, a balance that gives him time to relax while still feeding his competitive nature. On the professional stage, he looks up to French star Antoine Griezmann, whose creativity and work rate match the style Sanz wants to emulate.

Closer to home, he finds inspiration in a former teammate, Cager Philips. Sanz said Philips “encouraged me to be better on and off the field,” a standard the young Coweta standout now hopes to pass on to others as his own career continues to grow.
