Kiera Brown stands between the posts with confidence, a junior goalkeeper who helped lead the Bixby Lady Spartans to the state tournament last season and aims to build on that success.
Brown, who plays varsity soccer for Bixby High School, has become a key figure in the Lady Spartans’ defensive unit. Her journey from freshman to starting goalkeeper reflects dedication, teamwork and the influence of those around her.
“I’m very proud that I was able to be a part of helping get my Bixby high school team to state last year,” Brown said.
The state tournament appearance marked a high point for the program, and Brown played an integral role in the team’s defensive success. But her growth extends beyond statistics and wins.
“Sports has taught me to use teamwork and have a better attitude with things,” she said.
Brown credits much of her development to the people surrounding her. Coaches have pushed her to improve both on and off the field, while her best friend Kate has been instrumental in her soccer journey.
“I feel like I’m very inspired by all of my coaches who have pushed me to be a better person,” Brown said. “My best friend Kate. I started my freshman year out with her with club and high school and she has taught me so much.”
Kate has been a constant presence through Brown’s high school and club soccer experiences, helping shape her approach to the game.
Brown’s soccer inspiration traces back to childhood.
“Growing up, I feel like I really was drawn to Alex Morgan just because she was a very known person,” she said.
Morgan, a U.S. Women’s National Team star and World Cup champion, provided an early role model for Brown’s soccer ambitions. As she continues her high school career, Brown remains focused on representing Bixby with excellence.
“Just being able to show that Bixby has a lot of talent,” she said when asked about her goals.
Her message to younger players reflects the mindset that has carried her to varsity success.
“My best advice is, ‘Never give up, keep pushing,'” Brown said.
She also took time to acknowledge those who have supported her journey.
“I like to say thank you to my family and all of my friends for helping me get this far with soccer,” she said.
With another season ahead, Brown hopes to help the Lady Spartans return to the state tournament and continue building the program’s reputation across Oklahoma high school soccer.
