Mason Romero’s transformation as a baseball player didn’t happen overnight. The Glenpool High School junior has dedicated countless hours to becoming a stronger, more complete athlete, and the results speak for themselves.
“An accomplishment I’m proud of is how hard I have worked to be where I am now in baseball,” Romero said. “I have gained 30 pounds and have gotten a lot stronger, and I am proud of the work I put in to make myself better.”
The Warriors’ center fielder and pitcher credits much of his development to the lessons baseball has taught him beyond the diamond. For Romero, the sport has become a classroom for life skills that extend far beyond batting averages and earned run averages.
“My sport has taught me responsibility and accountability,” Romero said. “I need to be to practice on time and early every day and show up to morning weights on time every day. I need to maintain and keep good grades in order to play.”
Those lessons in discipline have been reinforced by important figures in Romero’s life, including his father, who has been his primary role model.
“My dad inspires me because he has raised me all my life and has pushed me to be a good kid and great at doing what I love,” Romero said.
Beyond family, Romero has found mentors in unexpected places. He singles out his English teacher, Mr. Taylor, as someone who has made a significant impact on his academic experience.
The camaraderie of team sports remains one of Romero’s greatest motivations. Playing alongside his friends and representing Glenpool High School drives him to excel.
“I have many friends on the baseball team and playing with them is my favorite thing in the world,” Romero said. “I like representing my high school by doing what I can to improve the program.”
As Romero enters the 2026 season under new head coach Allman, he’s eager to see what the Warriors can accomplish. His advice to other young athletes reflects the mentality that has fueled his own success: “Don’t care about what other people think, do what you need to do to get better.”
