Glenpool’s Peyton Surrett
Glenpool High School’s Peyton Surrett has built his reputation on quiet toughness and versatility, anchoring multiple sports while embracing every role that helps his teams win.
Surrett plays both football and baseball for the Warriors, lining up as a safety and slot receiver on the gridiron and handling catcher and second base duties on the diamond. He said he is most proud of earning all-district catcher honors as a sophomore, a recognition that affirmed the work he has put in behind the plate. “My sport has taught me hard work and dedication,” Surrett said. “You don’t have to be the biggest to be the best at what you do.”
Relationships fuel his experience at Glenpool as much as results. Surrett said his favorite part of representing his high school is the bond he shares with teammates and the time they spend together chasing common goals. One of those longtime connections is with teammate Brady Terronez, who he said has made the biggest impact on him in baseball because they have been playing together since age 9.
Surrett is quick to credit the people who shape him away from the field. He named Mr. Taylor as his favorite teacher because he makes him laugh and offers meaningful advice. At home, Surrett points to his mom’s constant support — from driving to every game to sitting through every kind of weather — as a daily source of inspiration.
He also leans on a trusted circle on game days, shouting out his girlfriend, Aria, for showing up to every event and offering feedback, along with his brother and dad for surrounding him with baseball his entire life. A quote that sticks with him is, “Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard,” a line he said applies to every sport he plays. Surrett looks up to professional outfielders Corbin Carroll and Pete Crow-Armstrong, noting Crow-Armstrong’s strong rookie season and seeing a bit of himself in starting early and making an impact as a freshman.
